Rogers Park Community Council’s

Small Accessibility Repairs for Seniors (Formerly known as HRAIL)

Sponsored by City of Chicago Department of Community Development

The SARFS  program provides FREE Safety, Security and Accessibility home improvements that enable Senior Citizens to remain in their homes.

In these times of high-energy costs – it is cost-effective to replace doors and storm doors which leak air and water, or repair with weather-stripping and caulking.

SARFS  can do it.

This is the time to install grab bars in the tub, handrails on the stairs, non-slip kitchen and bathroom floors, or install new locks.

SARFS  will do it.

What program can install raised toilets, vanity, tub surround, hand-held showerhead, accessible faucets in the bathroom ,bath chairs or transfer bench?

SARFS  can do it.

Kitchen base, wall and sink cabinetry can be replaced (accessible height if needed) and broken walls and ceilings can be repaired. Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers are provided.

SARFS  will do it.

These are only a few of the improvements the RPCC  SARFS Program can provide for income-qualified person over 60 years old.  This program is intended to resolve issues of safety, security and/or accessibility by planning and implementing needed changes in your home - be it a house, condo, or coop or rental in a building of 1 to 4 units.
Applicants must live in the following Wards:  40th, 48th, 49th, or 50th to receive services from the RPCC.

To be eligible for this program your  total income must not exceed $42,200 for one person, $48,250 for two people, $54,350 for three, $60,300,500 for four, and $65,100 for five.  If you have more people, call Carol Goldman for more income information,

RPCC''s SARF program  is presently compiling the list of people who need minor repairs or minor weatherization in their homes.

Now is the time to look around your home or apartment and determine what improvements are needed.  An on-site visit will be made to help determine what is available under the SARFS program.

All work will be done by a contractor – certified, licensed and bonded by the City of Chicago.

Call Carol Goldman, Program Director at 773-743-1752 or email cjgoldman@ameritech.net

 to discuss the program possibilities.
